EnergyEfficiencyProjects
Wecontinuously seek to improveour energy
efficiencybyemploying thebest available
techniquesandbestpractices. During the reporting
year,we implemented several energyefficiency
initiatives to tryand improve theenergyefficiency
of systemsandequipment, includingoverhaulsand
upgrades toexistingequipment.
In2015,we successfullycompletedour energy
efficiency studyon running two steam turbine
generators (STGs) at ahigher load insteadof
operating threeSTGs. Thiswill increase theamount
of electricitygeneratedwithinourplant since
the turbinesoperatemoreefficientlyat ahigher
load. Theadditional powergenerationwill permit
a reduction in theamountof excess steambeing
condensedandhencewill result ina lower loadon
our steamboilers. Thisprojectwill be implemented
during2016andwill provideadditional power to
thecompany that isgeneratedon site insteadof
importingelectricity from thegrid.
Looking forward to 2016 andbeyond, weplan to
implement further initiatives that help reduce
our energy consumption. We intend to replace
the solvent in theStream 2AcidGasRemoval
Unit (AGRU) in 2016. Thenew solventwill
require less energy tobe regenerated than
thepresent solvent andwill result in reduced
steam consumptionwithin this unit and reduced
consumptionof fuel gas in the steamboilers.
Theprojectwill alsodecrease the amount of
reservoir fluid required to attain the annual
nominations of (net) sales gas exported from
theonshoreplant, and increase the sustainability
of theoffshore reservoirs fromwhichDolphin
Energy supplies theonshoreplant.
Another energyefficiencyproject is to re-instate
thehighpressure steam superheating coilswithin
oneSulfurRecoveryUnit (SRU) during2017
and theother SRUduring2018, allowing the
company togeneratemoreof itsownelectricity.
This additional power generation frombothof
theseprojectswill result ina lower loadon the
steamboilers, anda consequent reduction in
fuel gasdemand.
RenewableEnergyandSolar Panels in theKuwait
TheBlockValveStations (BVSs) andSectionalizing
ValveStations (SVSs) alongour pipelines in the
Kuwaitare located far from theelectricgrid supply
source. Since the sourceof theelectricgrid supply
to the station ismore than 1 kmaway, itwas
moreeconomical to install solar panels for these
stations rather thanget supply from thegrid
considering thepriceof the transformer, power
cables, excavation, cable layingand installation
of switchgear topower the station.Wehave
therefore installed29 solar panels alongourKuwait
pipeline that generate 198,852kWhper year, saving
the company716GJof importedelectricity.
