Green ITEnergySavings
The ITdivisionatDolphinEnergy incorporates
Green IT initiatives in itsdailyactivities touse
IT resources inanenergy-efficient and cost-
effectivemanner. ThroughourGreen IT initiative,
whichbegan in2011, our ITdivisionhas saved
609MWhusing server virtualization, PCand
printer powermanagement andauto-shutdown,
coolingoptimization indata centers, aswell as
reducingelectronicwaste.
In2015, the ITdivisionmaximized server
virtualization to92%, and reduced theuseof
physical servers to8% (down from 16% in2014).
The ITdivisionaims to reach 100%virtualization
andwill focusonexploringVirtual Desktop
Infrastructure (VDI) in2016 to further improve
information securityand increaseenergyefficiency.
Wehave replaced someof theoldprinterswithan
optimizedfleet of energy-efficientmultifunctional
printers, andweplan to continuedoing sountilwe
have replacedall printers atDolphinEnergy.
Theuseofmoreversatile technologyhas improved
the ratioof user todevice; users cannow release
work fromany convenient printer by simply
presenting their employee ID cardat the card
reader, rather thanprint at a specificdevice.
Thishasalsoenhanced securitywithwork
collectedon release.Work that isnot released is
automaticallypurged, thus reducingpaperwaste.
Computer equipment recyclinganddonating is
an important part of our hardwaremanagement
strategy. The ITdivisionextends theuseof
equipment throughmaintenancebeyond the
warranty life span.Wedonateobsoletebut still
functioningequipment to charities and staff.
Inorder toenhanceemployees’ communication
and collaborationacross sites and countries,
wehavedeployedvideoandweb conferencing
andunified communication to limit unnecessary
travel, thus savingenergyand reducingour
carbon footprint.
