Todealwithdiverseand complexenvironmental
issues,wehavea comprehensiveEnvironmental
Management System (EMS) that ispart of our
HSE&SManagement System. TheEMS facilitates
the realizationof important sustainability
objectives, and includes environmental
performance standards coveringall significant
impactsof the company’soperations.We
determine these significant impacts through
Environmental ImpactAssessments (EIAs),
continuousupdatesof our Environmental Aspect
and ImpactRegisters, andongoingmonitoring
andevaluation.
Our environmental performance standards are
supplementedbyproject andoperations specific
procedures andmanagement plans.We regularly
track indicatorsof environmental performance
andprogress at our plant, sites andoffices, and
set annual actions and targets for improvement
aswe strive to reducewastegeneration, increase
recycling, limitwater consumption, control air
emissions, increaseenergyefficiencyand limit
wastewater effluents.
We engage and empower our employees and
communities to contribute andparticipate in
protecting the environment by investing in
training and spreading awareness on improving
our company’s environmental impact. As
part of our efforts topromote environmental
awareness among our people, we developed
a series of 12 environmental tips that were
circulated on amonthly basis (one tip for every
month) coveringdifferent environmental topics
applicable toofficeor operational activities such
as electricity andwater conservation, carbon
footprint and energy saving, hazardous chemical
management, recycling, andmanymore.
CompliancewithEnvironmental Laws
andRegulations
Strict compliancewith theapplicableenvironmental
regulations and legislation inQatar and theKuwait
is an integral part of our dailyoperations. Beyond
these legal requirements,we constantly look for
ways tominimizeour environmental impacts
and integrateenvironmental sustainability into
our operations.
TheHSE&Sdivisionmaintains adatabaseof
all legislation, regulations, and international
conventions ratifiedby theKuwaitandQatar that
are relevant to the company’sbusiness activities.
All our production facilitiesoperate inaccordance
withenvironmental operatingpermits, issued
by theQatarMinistryofMunicipalityand
Environment, EnvironmentAgencyAbuDhabi,
andFujairahMunicipalityEnvironment Protection
andDevelopmentDepartment. Thesepermits set
requirements for our environmentalmonitoring
and reporting.
Inaddition to followinggovernmental regulations,
wearealsoactiveparticipants in several national
environmental initiatives ledby theStateof
Qatar includinggasflaring reduction, GHG
management, energyefficiency, andwastewater
recyclingand reuse.
