Given thatweoperate inanenergy-
intensive industry,we recognize
our responsibility to improve the
energyefficiencyof our operations
andmake thebest useof natural
resources for social andeconomic
development. Reducing theamount
of energyweuse inour facilities
helpsusminimizeour environmental
impacts, reduceour carbon footprint
andair emissions andalsomakes
goodbusiness senseas it saves cost.
Theprimary formof energy
consumptionatDolphinEnergy
isdirect energy,which refers to
the internal fuel gas combusted
for process requirements, flaring
andventing; in short it is the fuel
consumedbyour ownoperations
and facilities. Themajorityof our
direct energy consumption comes
from theuseof natural gas, and
a smaller portion represents the
useof petrol anddiesel used for
company vehicles, pumps and
generators. Indirect energy refers to
electricitypurchased from thegrid
for our plant, offices andoperations.
Tosupplement theelectricitysupply
weget from the localgrid,wegenerate
our ownelectrical power from steam
turbinegeneratorsdrivenby steam
supplied from four boilers andHeat
RecoverySteamGenerator (HRSG)
units in theplant.
Our total energy consumptionhas
generally remained consistent over
thepast fewyears. However, energy
intensityhas increasedby5% in
2015. AtDolphinEnergy, energy
intensity is calculatedusing the
company’s energy consumption
dividedby the company’s total
production, including thirdparty
gasproduction. In2015, our third
partygasproductiondroppeddue
todecreaseddemand, reducing the
denominator of our energy intensity
without a significant change in
energy-intensiveoperations.
