DolphinEnergyhasdeviseda
Management of BadActors (MBA)
program to reduce itsmaintenance
expenditureaswell asenhance its
reliabilityandplant availability. In2013,
engineersconductedacomprehensive
studyof all failuresof thecompany’s
assetsover the last sixandahalf yearsof
plant operations, classifyingassetswith
repetitive failuresas ‘badactors’. Dolphin
Energyhasnowproceeded toeliminate
these ‘badactors’, beginningwith those
experiencing themost frequent failure
andgenerating thehighest annual cost.
Industryexperiencehas shown that 90%
of total downtimeandmaintenance
expenditure iscausedby just 10%of the
assetsbecauseof repetitive failuresor
lost opportunities for production;
DolphinEnergy hopes to achieve
significant reductions in such
expenditure as a result of this program.
DolphinEnergy’s export pipeline (upon
commission, the largest underwater gas
pipeline in theworld) is recognized as
onepotential singlepoint of failure, and
thus represents a significant risk to the
continuous supply of gas to customers.
TheEmergencyPipelineRepair System
(EPRS), planned tobe inplaceby 2017,
will enableDolphinEnergy to instantly
react to any accidental damage to the
export pipeline or to either of the sea
lines transporting rawgas fromDolphin
Energy’sproductionplatforms to its gas
processingplant at Ras Laffan.
In 2013, DolphinEnergy planned and
executed shutdowns at both its onshore
andoffshore facilities to carry out
necessarymaintenanceworks. During
theseperiods, third-party gaswasmade
available to ensure continuous supply
for customers. Plannedoutages are
necessary for DolphinEnergy to conduct
corrective andpreventivemaintenance
and thereby reduce the risk of unplanned
supply interruptions, ensure safety,
and safeguard the environment. Both
shutdownswere fully completed two
days aheadof schedule.
KnowledgeSharing
In 2013, DolphinEnergy signed aMemorandumof Understanding (MOU) withNord
StreamAG, theonlyother company in theworld touse a48-inchhigh-pressure subsea
gaspipeline in itsprovisionof natural gas fromRussia toEurope. The agreement
will provideopportunities for bothparties to exchangeoperational andmaintenance
knowledge, insights and expertise regarding their high-pressuregas networks and
subseapipeline systems. It will also look at howbothcan lend support to eachother’s
EmergencyPipelineRepair System (EPRS).
