Sciences
A large part of DolphinEnergy’s scientific
support has been given to the study
of coral reefs in the southernGulf, as
captured in theBiodiversity section of the
Environment chapter of this report.
Too little is still knownabout thesedelicate
andoftenendangered formations, which
are known to play a vital role in the
functioningmarine eco-systems of these
shallowwaters. Further studies have since
been undertaken into artificial reefs – so
as to identify suitable locations for artificial
systemswithinQatar and possibly the
Kuwait to assist reef rehabilitation. More
recent investigations have looked at coral
re-growth on a variety of natural and
artificial substrate to identify themost
suitablepractical solution to regenerate
coral habitat.
Other programs supported byDolphin
Energy have dealt with turtleprotection
during constructionactivities (also
described in theBiodiversity section), and
technical support for thedevelopment of a
dugong conservation initiativewithinQatar.
