FacilityMaintenance
To ensuremaximum efficiency and safety of its operations, Dolphin
Energy implemented a newmaintenance and inspectionprogram in
2010 that includes pre-planned temporary shutdowns to ensure the
highest standards of safety, maintenance, reliability and environmental
protection in all areas of the company’s business. Routinemaintenance
shutdowns are a regular feature of the energy industryworldwide and
DolphinEnergy has ensured the consistent implementationof these
checks. In 2010, three scheduledprograms tookplace andgas supply
to customerswas reducedduring theseperiods.
InQatar, theRas Laffanoperation’s 2010 ratioof correctivemaintenance
topreventativemaintenance - 1.42 to1.36 -was a slight improvement
compared to 2009, though the target to reach 1.25was notmet.
In theKuwait, Taweelahoperations saw an improvement of increased
correctivemaintenance, however the goal of achieving55% corrective
maintenancewas notmet.
MaintenanceAssisted viaPIGs andROVs
DolphinEnergy conducts pipeline integritymaintenanceprocedures
regularly, but who knewpigswere used? ‘PIG’ stands for pipeline
inspectiongauge, an intelligent piece ofmachinerywhich is able to
perform various operations on apipelinewithout disrupting the flow
of gas through thepipeline.
In fact, pigs arepropelled through thepipeline using the velocity
of the gas. Apig is shot throughDolphinEnergy pipelines regularly
to ensure the integrity of thepipeline remains intact; this includes
ensuring the thickness of thepipeline ismaintained throughout its
length and ensuring corrosion is kept at bay.
Another intelligent piece ofmachinery usedbyDolphin to conduct
maintenance inspections includes remote-operated vehicles (ROVs)
equippedwith cameras. ROVs are used to swim alongside the sub-
seapipeline and transmit visual images of thepipeline to identify any
unusual observations. The exercise of sending anROV the entire
lengthof the sub-seapipeline spans an entiremonth.

PlatformMaintenancewhile inOperation
Dolphin’sSimultaneousOperations Team (SIMOPS) successfully
completed a series ofmaintenanceprograms onDolphin’s
offshoreplatforms inQatar. The scope included the removal and
refurbishment of two 36”motorizedoperating valves and extensive
painting and facilitiesmodificationwork onbothDOL1 andDOL2.
Thepaintingwork covered 6,000m

on eachplatformwith themajor
part of thework conducted using rope access. Themodifications
weremade to enhance the safety andproductivity of theplatforms.
More than 95,700 hours of workwere recordedwithout a single
recorded lost time incident. Thiswas the result of extensiveplanning,
proper execution and strong teamwork.
• Reach a 100% average availability of facilities due to
non-operational shortfalls
• Maintain 0 hours of TaweelahReceivingFacility (TRF) downtime
• Identify andprioritize highpoints of failure inoperations as part of
business continuitymanagement
• Conduct the first shutdown andmaintenance of STREAM 2 since
operational start-up
